Ancient Egyptian mummy masks, tombs and 'god of silence' statue discovered at Saqqara
Archaeologists in Egypt have discovered a series of tombs dating from about 1,800 to 4,800 years ago, some of which contain colorful mummy masks and even the childlike statue of the god of silence, according to the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.
The colorful mummy masks, which would have been worn by the dead, date to the Ptolemaic period (304 to 30 B.C.) and Roman period (29 B.C. to A.D. 641), according to Nozomu Kawai, the director of the Institute for the Study of Ancient Civilizations and Cultural Resources at Kanazawa University in Japan, who led the excavations.
The archaeologists also found a small statue showing Harpocrates, a Greek god that looks like a child who is associated with silence, riding a goose. The goose represents "an evil spirit over which the Divine Child triumphs," Kawai told Live Science in an email. Read more.

Remembering Tyke.
30 years ago yesterday, Tyke, a young elephant stolen as a baby from the wild and forced into the circus through whipping and abuse, snapped and killed her trainer while being hit to enter the tent. Tyke wasn't "angry," or "savage," -- you can see it in the video. She was upset and terrified, an act of self defense, trying to protect herself. Tyke endured years of abuse by that trainer and the circus. She was shot over 100 times before she died on the street. The confusion in her eyes as a firing line of police shot at her, for doing nothing wrong but wanting to get away from a lifetime of abuse. All animals are sentient beings, meaning they feel, have memories, think, emotions, etc. No animals, except humans, kill other living things out of malice.
Most people would have done the same after years of abuse and fear, if they were Tyke. If most humans watched how elephants -- and all animals -- are "trained" to do things like tourists rides/attractions, circuses, zoos, etc, or how the animals forced to do so live, they would not ever support anything but protecting and helping animals instead.
They'd be upset for days, as people do when they see the video of Tyke that day, or of the "crush," the tactic used to restrain and hurt an elephant repeatedly, until it's spirit is broken and it stops fighting being forced to do tricks in the circus, or give tourists rides.
If you go to the horse track, dog track, ride horses or any other animal offered by a company, have a petting zoo at a party, or think it's "so cool" to do XYZ in the wild with animals, you're contributing to their abuse and neglect, and paying someone to do it.
A lot of people don't realize this, and it's good to spread the word. Please consider going to sanctuaries for these animals instead, and use your passion to help others learn about the reality of animal tourism and entertainment for the animals. Support the causes who are working to set animals in zoos, labs, circuses, etc. free. You'll be so glad you did. Animals in these places do not want to be there, and they have no way to help themselves. They're afraid and need help. Just like Tyke.
Remembering Tyke, today and everyday, and all living things in need, including animals, people and the environment.
People think it takes a lot of people to change the world or a lot of money, but all it takes is for one person to do something. That's me, that's you, that's all of us.

Stratford-Upon-Avon: June 26-29, 2024
As an English major and theater nerd, I pretty much had to visit Stratford-Upon-Avon, the hometown of William Shakespeare. Surprisingly, though, the highlights of this part of the trip for me weren't actually Shakespeare-related, though the Shakespeare tourism was really cool.
My first day there, I wandered around near my hotel and found a Ferris wheel to ride. I bought a ticket and got the whole ride to myself.
(Above: View from said Ferris wheel.)
After riding the Ferris wheel, I heard a four-piece band of preteens out busking in the plaza and absolutely slaying "Killing In the Name" by Rage Against the Machine.
I stayed to listen to their entire set, a set which seemed to be curated specifically to part Boomers through Millennials from their money. I wrote down all the songs I could remember at the end of the day:
"Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana
"Zombie" by The Cranberries
"Glory Box" by Portishead (?!?!?!)
"7 Nation Army" by the White Stripes
"These Boots Are Made for Walkin'" by Nancy Sinatra
"Sweet Home Alabama" by Leonard Skynyrd
I can't overstate how incredibly talented these kids were. I feel so blessed to have been able to catch their show. I tipped them £5 and asked them to promise never to stop making music.
Also: Look at the geese by the Ferris wheel and River Avon! (Fun fact: Avon means "river," so it's the "River River.") (Another fun fact: "Stratford-Upon-Avon" means "The Street Where You Cross the River.")
Another non-Shakespeare highlight was my visit was the MAD Museum, full of mechanical art, automata, and Rube Goldberg-style devices. It's fairly small, but I had an absolute blast wandering around and admiring everything.
But, of course, I also did Shakespeare things. My first full day in town, I bought a ticket for one of those open-top, hop-on/hop-off bus tours, which was recommended in the Rick Steves guide as being the best way to get out to see Anne Hathaway's (Shakespeare's wife's) childhood home, which is just a bit outside of town.
It was well worth the money and the trip. Her cottage is beautiful, and was in her family for several generations. You can see some sections that are fairly authentic to when she would've grown up there, and then there's an enormous garden, which includes a lot of really neat sculptures.
I also visited Shakespeare's grave, inside Holy Trinity Church. At the time Shakespeare lived, it was common practice to dig up people's graves about 20 years after they were buried, to make room for new bodies. Shakespeare was appalled by this, and not only arranged to be buried inside the church, he also wrote a curse to be placed on his resting place:
"Good friend for Jesus sake forbeare, To dig the dust enclosed here. Blessed be the man that spares these stones, And cursed be he that moves my bones."
While I was in town, I was hoping to see a performance of something by Shakespeare, but apparently I visited when there were no Shakespeare performances to be had. Instead, I visited the Royal Shakespeare Theatre and saw a production of Kyoto, a gripping political thriller based on a true story about the UN Climate Talks.
youtube
The protagonist(?) in the play is an American lawyer who served under Reagan, who after Reagan's second term was hired by OPEC to sabotage the UN Climate Talks. I never thought someone could make UN parliamentary procedure gripping, but I was wrong. I was on the edge of my seat for this play. If you ever get a chance to see it, do.
The theatre itself was beautiful, and almost completely in-the-round. I had a fantastic seat on the second level, only slightly off-center from the midpoint of the stage.
I don't have photos of them, but I also visited Shakespeare's New Place (which is mostly just a fabulous garden) and saw the exhibit for Shakespeare's Birthplace (the latter had a super long, slow line to get into the birthplace itself, and a lot of people in line were coughing, so I opted not to go in).
The most important Shakespeare-related thing I did during my visit, however, was having high tea at the Shakespaw Cat Cafe.
All the cats there are named after Shakespeare characters. Above, Horatio is trying to steal Hamlet's treats, and I'm holding Raven, an adorable kitten who blessed me by crawling into my lap and snoozing for a bit. 10/10, would drink tea and pet kitties again.
Things that made me giggle during this part of the trip:

😍 + uly!
There aren't a great many people that Ash finds he loves. He can make friends with more than most, but he can count on one hand those he extends his greatest care to. He never thought one of those fingers would be taken once he made it to California.
Los Angeles was a concrete maze of tourism and Hollywood lights that outshone the derelicts and everything grimy underneath. Ash has no fond memories of that city. Aurora Bay is better with that - not having thinly veiled lies to make it seem better than it is. It has the beach, a cozier vibe that isn't overwhelming, but the biggest pillar to his adjustment of beach town vibe had been none other than Ulysses Flynn.
It wasn't hard for Ash to fall into step beside him, to find a place there where he was welcomed and home. He didn't realize it until about two months in, hanging out on Uly's balcony, with the tobacco burning his throat and a heady buzz from shitty PBR tilting the world ever so slightly. They were teetering close to four in the morning. It was easy to lose track of time, he even said so.
"Y'know. When I'm around you, I don't worry or care about anything. Like, look - it's three forty three in the morning!" Ash holds his phone up where, through the crack that stretches corner to corner, the time reads. He pulls it back and extends his other arm out to ash the end of his cigarette. "It's cool, yeah? I'm not so busy overthinking things because it feels easy. You make things feel easy."
Does it make sense?
Ash takes another drag of his cigarette, letting it hang from his mouth so he can divide his attention between that and his phone. "You're easy to be around. I don't know if you know it, but I love it."
Uly quickly became someone Asher would consider family, because family has each other's backs, and Uly has proved that time and time again.
"Yo, dude. I think that guy was about to shit his pants!"
It was around October, when the chill started taking hold late in the evenings, fleeing the Reef after a near-altercation, and Asher was delivering a slap to Uly's shoulder.
A set of sticky fingers and a plucked wallet nearly ended with a fist to Asher's face. "He took one look at you and - psh, knew better. But y'know..." Ash waved up the wallet in one hand and the pack of American Spirits. "I might've double dipped." Oops.
But that was the thing. It didn't matter that this started because Asher had some morality issues. Technically, he did wrong, but Uly was there at his side. Some 'what if' questions over time told Ash that there wasn't much he could do that would change that. "Thanks for that. You're honestly probably the most loyal fucker I know."
Possibly, to a fault, but that is neither here nor there if you ask Ash.
There was a certain gratitude and fondness when he said to him, "It's, uh... thanks, man. For always being like my ride or die." Tried and true, always faithful, and his confidant.
Coming around closer to the New Year, he had felt like there was a lifetime between them, all packed into nine months. The night of his birthday, back in the Reef. He couldn't have been happier at that point. Gillian on one side, Uly on the other. He had his whole world there that night, plus many more. It didn't matter that he lost first round in the pool tournament.
"Thanks for coming." Of course he would. After the first few beers had started to soften the edges of his vision, it was already all too late from the amount of shots he'd had with them that Asher made a huge miscalculation in how much he actually consumed.
He let himself stumble outside, soppy and drunk, to get a touch of fresh air. "I didn't think i'd still be here, in this town, by the way. That's all you." He grins, and it reaches his eyes. "I didn't know Gillian was here before we met, or for even like a few months after, and I was close to hopping on a bus to find my feet somewhere else. But I stayed when we became friends. I stayed because I didn't want to leave here if it met leaving you."
The anchor that had kept Asher from floating too far off, his inevitable wandering brought to an end. He felt he had found his place here with someone he met only by chance. One 9-1-1 call for attempted theft would've ended all of that.
"Thanks for making this place home." And that was probably the thing that Asher loved most. Uly made him a home.

man thought about a toh theory for a little too long. Anyway, Phillip 100% burnt down this building, but it gets worse! We can’t trust Masha’s story
Local man thought too hard about one aspect of toh and is now convinced about something entirely different, luckily also within toh.
But yeah, Phillip burned down this fucking building. He’s also a lying little cunt, and he’s tricked more people than just Luz with a journal. All under the cut, because this one got LONG.
please do not leave your suspension of disbelief at the door, youre gonna need it.
So, This Fucking Statue:
Up until recently, it was logically assumed within fandom that, oh! The Wittebanes must have founded Gravesfield, cool! The statue is one of the only landmarks we see after all, so wouldn’t it make sense to assume they founded it? But in Thanks to Them (even if it does fuck the timeline to all hell and back with the 1613 debacle) the episode makes it clear that the Wittebanes did Not found Gravesfield, and no one in the town actually believes this.
So the thought occurred to me, why the fuck does this statue even exist?
I’d argue tourism, for the main part. Tourism and a bit of history. Masha refers to the disappearance of the Wittebanes as “the eeriest unsolved mystery of Gravesfield.” Famous mystery! Local history! All decent reasons for a statue.
In addition, Masha also says also says, “[the Wittebanes] became witch hunters. Local lore suggests that the brothers Wittebane met a real witch...” and yeah, this all fits the idea of a famous local mystery! The way Masha refers to the story as well, “the tale of the brothers Wittebane.” Sounds pretty colloquial, right?
And of course, why wouldn’t the town memorialise what is probably its only tourist attraction and the brave, brave witch hunters of the past?
“[Caleb and Evelyn] used a secret code to travel between worlds.”
Then the story starts to fall apart a bit, because for one, that does not look like a secret code. For two, when the fuck have we seen a secret code before with the portals? Ever?
And sure, you could definitely argue that oh, he’s sinking down to hell. Fire = hell = witchcraft = boiling isles, easy!
But then there’s another piece of fire imagery just after this just as Masha talks about Phillip trying to seek out his brother:
But that still technically fits the theme. Fire = hell = witchcraft = boiling isles. Makes sense! They both ended up in the boiling isles, case closed.
But then, why is Phillip being burned by the same torches that the witch hunters were holding just a few seconds earlier?
Maybe its just some teenagers who made a hay ride reusing assets?
We’ll diverge for a second to our only other source of Gravesfield history within the human realm:
This bitch.
As Jacob tells it from “the secret history of Gravesfield” (assuming this is the title of the book in his hands):
“in the 1600s, [Gravesfield] was a peaceful colony until tragedy struck. Two brothers were lured into a realm of evil by a real witch, never to be seen again.”
Contrast this with Masha’s seemingly colloquial, local history:
“They tried to fit in with this town and its unsavoury practices... local lore suggests that the brothers Wittebane met a real witch from another world... and the older brother was spirited away. She dazzled him with magic and visions... they used a secret code to travel between worlds. Phillip set off to save his brother and bring the witch to justice, but neither were ever seen again.”
In one of these stories, both of the Wittebanes are victims of one magnanimous evil. This is only found in the secret history. In the other, Phillip is a man on a noble mission, a story with no known conclusion. Since Masha’s story is seemingly not the “secret one”, it would make sense that this is the Gravesfield accepted one! It even makes sense when you look at the statue, Phillip is behind Caleb, seemingly in pursuit.
Oh, but wait a minute-
In the forgotten history, one of the brothers is holding a torch. Said brother is holding a glyph (Phillip activity) while the other one has a bird on his shoulder (Caleb activity). And what do we see on the page beforehand?
This building, on fire.
Since in the forgotten history they both succumb to the “real witch,” maybe Phillip is just another victim in this narrative? He set the town hall or whatever on fire because oh! A witch!
But that still doesn’t explain why Phillip is being burned by the witch hunters???
But then, what the fuck? There is clearly some truth in Masha’s story- Evelyn’s name, Caleb and Phillip’s names, but they doesn’t say shit about Phillip burning down a fucking building, maybe we should just discredit Gravesfield’s forgotten history as inaccurate? But it clearly displays flapjack, and a glyph! Masha and their visuals don’t have that.
But here is where I’m going to ask you to not take the Wittebros reveal from Thanks to Them at face value. Not even in the slightest. I’d ask you to instead think: “if I were an animator trying to imply that what is being said is false, what options are available to me?” TOH at this point doesn’t have enough run time to waste visual imagery nor to wrap up every single plot point they introduced in season 1+2A (truncation was announced in October 2021, 2A and Yesterday’s Lie finished airing in August). Hell, we don’t even have a fucking intro anymore. Everything the animators are doing- they are doing for a reason. Why the hell would Phillip be burned by torches instead of just average old fire like Caleb? Like Flapjack-
But wait a fucking second, why in God’s fucking name is Flapjack here???
AND WHY IS HE ON FIRE?
“...she dazzled him with magic...” yeah yeah sure why the fuck not, fire = magic whoop-de-doo, but think with me here. The Clawthornes are palisman carvers, sure, I get that, but why in her right fucking mind would Evelyn just offer Caleb a palisman right off the bat? This is their first meeting in this story, right?
In addition, even though this is in the period before palistrom wood is endangered, throughout the show older characters with palisman typically have theirs custom made in some way!!! Palismen bond on emotion, and in a period with abundant palistrom wood, why Wouldn’t you hand carve a palisman guaranteed to fit you? Or, hell, why would you not get it custom made For You by a skilled carver? Palismen are a very personal thing, so why!!! Why does Evelyn just have Flapjack on hand?
(in addition why do none of the characters LOSE THEIR SHIT OVER THIS, but I digress)
And shit! Just keeps not adding up! Caleb and Evelyn used a “secret code” to travel between worlds. This, outright, sounds like complete bullshit, and we know that its bullshit because we see Evelyn and Caleb’s portal, and its activated by Titan’s Blood, as is literally every other portal. So where the hell did this trivia even come from? It almost sounds like a taunt, “oh yeah the method to do this did exist, but its a big old secret so no one will ever be able to do it again lmao!” It just sounds like a lie.
But at the same time, this blatant lie connotates that travel was possible more than once, because why have a code for a portal you can never return from? This explains why the hell Flapjack is here, I guess. They have met more than once, so she offers him Flapjack, lovely! But this actively goes against Masha’s words which imply Caleb was lured in, the singular and only victim. But seriously, where the fuck is this narrative coming from-?
Met with a Real Witch, their Greatest Enemy, Caleb is holding a pitchfork. Phillip is writing in a book, just like in season 2! Phillip’s journal throughout season 2 opens with an introduction. He’s just started a new journal!
It is also FULL OF FUCKING LIES.
Here’s what I’m proposing: there are three stories going on here.
One: Masha’s spoken story. AKA, Phillip’s that he is WRITING DOWN IN FRONT OF US.
Two: The Real Story. AKA, the one we see as visuals as Masha tells Phillip’s and without the same timing presented in Masha’s
Three: Gravesfields “Forgotten” History. AKA, a blend of the truth and Phillip’s, written years after the actual events.
I cannot explain how Phillip managed to get this journal/fake ass story out to Gravesfield, nor can I explain if I’m even right in interpreting these visuals. I have no fucking clue why the people of Gravesfield would turn on Phillip and Phillip alone!!!
I am, however, 90% certain that the story we have heard from Masha is not the truth, and this will be in some way revealed in our upcoming two episodes. If I’m wrong, then fuck me I guess. If I’m right? I’m never shutting the fuck up again.
There’s some other potentially related evidence thats stuck with me so I’ll just pop it all at the bottom here real quick, but unless this particular worm has already starting digging its way through your brain, then hope you enjoyed!
caleb leaves the spotlight and never reenters it. the yellow light doesn’t leave phillip even as he burns. ???
caleb hold book. why ???
circles light glyphs ???? i also have no idea why the fucking bird is on fire
-In forgotten history they are both victim,,, phillip’s history he is saviour to caleb’s victim,,, real history phillip has knife ??? i can think of potential postives to phillip in both scenarios whether he is a victim or not (oh i Suffered,,,, vs I Saved And Am Strong !!!)
#The Owl House#toh#toh theory#phillip wittebane#caleb wittebane#the owl house theory#thanks to them#thanks to them spoilers#leir time#thank you to the discord server for listening to my intense ramblings on this one#now watch as this gets disproved to hell and back in three weeks time lmao

A Place I Call Home
Bantayan Island is found in the northern part of Cebu, in which you have to ride a bus, and a ferry to go there. It can take hours to get there, especially if there's traffic, but knowing the route going there, there will be traffic. But I can guarantee you that it will be worth it going there with friends, family, or by yourself. Even without or with little signal that can be found in the island. After getting of the ferry, you will be greeted by the fresh air, the bright glistening sun, the glimpse of the beaches that you can go to, the clear sea water, and of course the people in charge of security. There is a not so long ride going to the municipal of Bantayan after arriving. You might get lost like what we did with my family since it was at night, so you have to be careful when driving there.
There are three main municipal of the island, which are Santa Fe(center of tourism), Madridejos(the northern part of the island), and lastly Bantayan(center part and the largest part of the municipal). My dad's side of the family is in the Bantayan municipal, while my mom's side of the family is from the municipal of Madridejos. Even though it's a far ride, you can still enjoy the wonderful view that can be seen throughout the ride. With many mountains, farms, and big trees you can pass by. You surely won't get bored commuting in going to many places you have on your check list. But also be careful, because there are many wild animals that can hurt you, such as snakes in the forest.
Everytime my family and I go there for vacation, of course it wouldn't be a full experience without going to beach resorts. Knowing the weather there, after you get out of the water, your skin wil surely get darker. So remember to put on sunscreen when going to the beach. Even though my parents are from Bantayan, we still get lost in going to the resorts, so make sure you ask for a guide so you won't get lost. If you don't want to swim that is still fine. You can still enjoy the fun experience with your family with a picnic by the shore. The family bonds will surely strengthen with everyone enjoying all the foods, drinks, and games you can share with your family.
You can also go island hopping with your family, which is nice and scary at the same time. There are many islets and islands that can be found in the area which can be really nice to explore. There are also floating cottages for people to use. But for me, it was only for a short amount of time with my Tiyo's palm boat and we didn't get to go island hopping, but it was a fun and scary experience. It was fun because I was with my family, and scary because of the story behind the islet we went was a horror, in which we needed to do a ritual before entering so no bad spirit that can come and get us.
Despite the scary stories, scary animals, long travel, confusing roads, and little signal, it is still a wonderful place to visit. Even though I live in Cebu right now, Bantayan will always be my home, no matter what people say. The memories I made, the friends I created, the families I met, it didn't started there, but that place always had created more memorable and fun experience for being there. I will treasure it in my heart, and I will always be a proud Binantayanon.

I, of course, knew about Quaker services from Six Feet Under, and I feel a little embarrassed that I work at a cemetery and I’m basically doing a Disney theme park ride for yuppie spiritual tourism a la prestige TV. But also my great grandfather was a Quaker, organized against the KKK in Wisconsin. I knew about Quakers from studying radical Protestantism in America and joining the American Friends Service Committee (mailing list) after 9/11. So, it wasn’t exactly that.
The Quaker service, or friends meeting as it’s called, has always been the ideal church service in my mind. Quakers are radical egalitarians. I said Sir a few times out of habit (I admit it’s a strange habit. I tend to answer objections to Sir with “I meant no respect.”) They sit silently together until moved by the spirit to speak. The point is to listen.
For me, I have lived here on the North Shore for a year, and learned there were Friends meetings almost immediately, but I’ve never attended because I’d rather get breakfast, I slept too late, or there is no God. That’s the case any given Sunday, to be fair.
But today I went. Mostly because I enjoyed officiating the wedding, and I feel like I would get into a fist fight with Unitarians. My friend woke up dead this week, either that or he killed himself, I don’t have the courage to ask. And I spent Friday night in the ER waiting room because I was suddenly woozy after work and almost fell down, had trouble walking. I stayed for two hours until there was almost a revolt from people who had been waiting four. So I just went home.
Today, I woke up early. Ate breakfast. Had a comfortable window to decide. And went.
I was met at the door and asked to wear a mask. I had one. Lois said she had never been to a service either, and it will be a bit strange and no one will talk, but they will talk after. I said I understood, and thanked her.
I was worried about the talking more than anything.
I’ve spent all month watching Hamas videos with admiration and wonder. They do in fact have that dog in them. When I was 17, and probably for the 13 years after that, I was a radical pacifist. In fact, I’d say it’s just how I’ve always been. A sub. A natural masochist who has loved the lion’s den, and yearned for it from a very young age.
I don’t know that I would describe myself as a pacifist anymore, but the rest remains true.
For me, I feel a calling to be the soul of the room I’m in. To be human and kind. To confront inhumanity directly in my daily life. Bloch’s warm stream of Marxism and whatever radical Quakerism I’ve imagined all my life are not too different. Again, in my mind.
I took a seat on the walnut pews arranged in a circle, democratic. There was a stack of pillow cushions that regulars took from. I sat and stared at the wooden ends of the two pews in front of me that formed my semi-circle, at a certain distance like a spark gap that reminded me of the Mercy Seat.
I was consistently meditating on this gap. That Quaker church is not too different from a room full of teenagers on their cellphones, friends on their laptops stoned on the hot couch, who don’t speak to each other for hours at a time. Quakerism is always two things. It’s the radical religion of Protestant and capitalist introversion. It is also love. It is the most profound and honest method to meet God where he is, in silence, but also in people. And that is the catch.
I can only imagine so many Larry David interactions between people who must be regulars here. Surely one service is profound, but what about this woman Carol who wants to take newcomers into the library. See, Badiou insists that every rupture is named. You have an event and then the truth is prescribed. But I don’t know about that. Every truth procedure is subject to entropy, so what I believe was revealed will be revealed in time as never the revelation itself. Duration, the fullness within silence, is the only substance. And that which is done out of love is necessary and right, always a kind of fumbling experiment but for that first grace. But that journey is the point regardless. The silence is only silence otherwise.
So, I am watching the warm sunlight on wood, but I am also among this “sack of potatoes”. These Protestants. God speaks to me frantically, sometimes kindly. “Various eyes,” he says. I think about how God’s body is a bit like mine. Hideous, astronomically huge, mostly war. Be kind to God’s body. This old thing. “This old thing?” With a question mark? This old thing?
An ambulance siren wails outside and we all listen long to its Doppler disappearance. Gaza is out there, and it’s besieged ambulances. Kindness, kindness. The light colder. I say a prayer for each person I am at war with. Kindness.
A young gay man with a considerable five o’clock shadow whips his arms out like he’s trying to break out of a straight jacket. He’s in a very different place than myself and shocks me out of my prayer to the same God, in which I only hear myself. I think about the God of Job, an edgy guy who creates sea monsters and plagues to amuse himself. What if God is a very chill handsome man with a five o’clock shadow, who isn’t thinking of anything in particular? Sometimes he sits and thinks, and sometimes he just sits, while I imagine infinite montages of suffering and light. His body is beautiful, slim, a little hairy.
I try not to sit too stiffly. Thats too pretentious for what this performance is supposed to be. I see a middle aged man who reads a book, cross-legged across from me. Not a care in the world. It’s just Sunday morning to him.
A woman stands. I should say that there is also some kind of Zoom feed witnessing all this silence at the same time. Elderly faces in prayer on a screen in the room. She stands, emotional, her voice quivering. “I want, I feel I have to remember, this saying from George Fox, that we have to walk this world with kindness and joy.”
And then she sits and then we sit for a little while more and break out into waving at each other from our pews. People shake hands. We go through the church introducing ourselves. A black couple who has been to a service before, but not here. A beautiful young woman named Kat. A gay man named Berkeley. Carol, who will be in the library stealing souls like a spider. Various invitations to potluck. Joy and kindness.
When Carol intercepts me at the entrance, I take it as a challenge and accept. When I get to library, Kat is there and when Carol tries to pin her down, she tells her she’s been a Quaker all her life, to say, please fuck off. I take this as a sign, a permission, a forgiveness. I’ll leave too.

Job Creation: As more people flock to ski destinations, there's a growing need for instructors, guides, and support staff. This not only helps local economies but also provides job opportunities in regions that might have limited options.
